Adding non-ClickBank products to Profitmart

Gentle Reader:

Profitmart is an incredibly powerful platform for selling Clickbank, Amazon Books, and eBay items as everything is automated. But, with a little bit of editing, it is possible to incorporate other Affiliate marketing programs such as Commission Junction and Digital River. Digital River has hundreds of different software programs available for affiliate marketers. Commission Junction has several thousand different products, both tangible goods and software programs, some of them from big name retailers like Dell.

I will use Commission Junction as it allows me to show how to add both tangible goods and software items to your profitmart. It is a long established and very reputable third party. It is very much like clickbank but is structured differently.

The first step is to sign up for a Commission Junction ID number. That is done via their website, www.cj.com. Once your application is accepted, you will get an email with your login information. Then, go back to the Commission Junction website and log on.

My Profitmart site deals with anything to do with web hosting, web site developement, web production, and web promotion. One of the Commission Junction products I have is a web hosting company called Start Logic. As it turns out, I also use that hosting company to host a couple personal projects of mine. Here is how I added that service to my offerings.

1. Log onto your Profitmart admin page and add an additional clickbank keyword of “Web Hosting”. If you want to find a product in one of the existing clickbank categories, you can skip this step.

2. Log onto the Commission Junction web site. This will take you to their main page.

3. From the menu on the upper left, click “Get Links”. This will open a submenu with four options: General Categories, Advertiser List, SmartZone Settings, and By Relationship. On the General Categories page, there will be a dropdown menu giving you three options: Advertisers, Links, and Products.

4. Click the dropdown arrow and select Links.
5. In the text entry field next to the dropdown box, type “startlogic” and click “Find”. that gives you a list of 14 links you can use.  If you try using “Advertisers” instead of “Links” you will only get one item.  If you select “Products” instead of “Links”, and use “Web Hosting” as your keyword, you will get 70 different products and services.  None of them will be “Start Logic”.  How you search and what you search with will vary the results you get.

5.  Click any of the items under “Name”.  Scroll down and select “Join Program”.  Usually, you will have immediate access.  If not, you will have to wait until someone manually approves you.  When you are approved, you can then start adding links.

6.  Pick a banner or product you like and select “Get HTML” under “Get Links. Your next step will depend on wether you have selected an intangible good (such as Hosting Services) or a tangible good (such as a T-Shirt).

7A.  If it is an intangbible good, you will get a pop up box giving you a number of different options to fill in.  Enter your Commission Junction Account ID for SID.  What I like to do is also select to “open in a new window”.  That will at least keep the visitor on your web page as well as on the affiliate site’s pages.  The page will autorefresh.  Scroll down and click “Highlight Code/Copy Code”.  That will copy the linking code to your windows clipboard.

7B.  If it is a tangible good such as a T-Shirt or a Tie, you will get a pop up box giving you a number of different options to fill in.  Put your Commission Junction Account ID in the SID field and select “open in a new window”.  The window will autorefresh.  You are also given three different links you can use.  One gives you a text link, another gives you a banner with no text, the third gives you both a banner and text.  Pick whichever one you like and click “Higlight Code/Copy Code”.

8.  Go back to your Profitmart admin page and click “Content” beside the category the link(s) will appear.  This will open the page editor so that your text can be added.  This will give you a text entry box and some icons above that.  One of them will be an icon of a pair of angle brackets.

9.  Click the icon of a pair of angle brackets.  This will take you into a mode called “View the HTML Source”.  Now you can place your link on your Profitmart site.

10. Click the line where you want to place your link and press “Ctrl-V” on the keyboard.  Press “Save”. 

You will now have successfully added a Commission Junction Affiliate Marketing link onto your Profitmart site.  That wasn’t so hard, was it?
